Even before FlipTop began, Ilaya is already a respected wordsmith. He was part of the legendary group Tao Sa Laya and has worked with veterans Los Indios Bravos on several occasions. The Taguig-based emcee officially became part of FlipTop in February of 2014, after impressing the audience with his strong performance at Process of Illumination 4. He proved that he definitely belongs to the battle scene when he defeated Left Eye Blind in his debut. Fans of the league praised not only his complex Filipino vocabulary, but also his raw aggression. His most recent battle was against Sayadd at Ahon 10. Ilaya’s dedication to music didn’t stop or slow down at all. He and Tala, collectively known as Kartel, are released their debut album “Kontrapunto” under Uprising. The duo is also well-known for their collaboration with Reggae band Lion and the Scouts. They released an album in early 2014 called “Pagsibol”, which features the popular track “Pag-asa, Pag-ibig, Paglaya”.
